Antiy Research Institute and Key Laboratory of Ministry of Education of Symbolic Computation and Knowledge Engineering, Jilin University jointly establish Joint Laboratory of Cyber Security Threat Knowledge Engineering. Both sides will work together to promote the frontier research of knowledge engineering, artificial intelligence, data mining and other technologies in threat analysis and situation awareness and other fields. Through solid and in-depth cooperation in the areas of scientific research cooperation, resource sharing, academic exchanges, joint program application, etc, they will actively promote the practical application of self-owned advanced technical achievements in cyber security field.

On March 20th, “Joint Laboratory of Cyber Security Threat Knowledge Engineering” was established jointly by Antiy Research Institute and Key Laboratory of Ministry of Education of Symbolic Computation and Knowledge Engineering, Jilin University (hereinafter referred to as Symbol Laboratory of Jilin University) held openning ceremony in the building of College of Computer Science and Technology, Jilin University and the first joint laboratory academic exchange.
Zhang Yonggang, deputy director of Symbol Laboratory of Jilin University, presided over the openning ceremony. Professor Yang Bo, director of Symbol Laboratory of Jilin University and co-director of Joint Laboratory of Cyber Threat Knowledge Engineering, and Tong Zhiming, the technical director of the Basic Engine R&D Department of the Antiy Research Institute, delivered address for the ceremony. Associate professor Wu Chunguo, associate professor Lai Yong of Symbol Laboratory of Jilin University, Zhao Chao, president assistant of Antiy Research Institute and senior security researcher, Liu Jinlan, technical director of Antiy in Changchun, and other team members in joint laboratory attended the openning ceremony together.

Yang Bo, director of Symbol Laboratory of Jilin University, said in his speech that Symbol Laboratory of Jilin University focuses on applied basic research and is supported by two first-level disciplines – mathematics and computer science, Jilin University – founded by academician Wang Xianghao. The intercross and fusion of computer science and mathematics makes it a national leader in symbolic computation and knowledge engineering field. Antiy is a well-known cyber security enterprise that adheres to research and development of self-owned advanced cyber security technology for many years. Antiy has strong engineering technology capabilities, massive threat analysis and research data and sample resources. By establishing a joint laboratory with Antiy Research Institute, they hope to jointly promote the alliance of the strong, the close integration of research and teaching and engineering technology practices, and the collaborative innovative development of Industry-Academy-Research.
Technical director of Antiy Anti-Virus Engine said in his speech that it is not enough to just rely on the traditional malicious code detection countermeasures to deal with the long-term continuous activities of various threat actors, all sorts of complex and intertwined attacks and the continuously increasing number of threat loads. Knowledge graph should be established for threat actors and their engineering systems, equipment systems and massive malicious code payloads. Antiy is currently researching and developing a tactical situation awareness platform that runs actually, which needs to accelerate the exploration of threat knowledge graphs, mental model and other areas.
Jilin University has strong theoretical advantages in the field of the combination of knowledge engineering and artificial intelligence. By establishing a joint laboratory, Jilin University’s research and teaching talent advantages can be combined with Antiy’s engineering capabilities advantages to promote the practical application of knowledge engineering in cyber security field.
After the openning ceremony, Jilin University and Antiy researchers shared technical reports respectively at the first joint laboratory academic conference, Research on Knowledge Engineering of Key Laboratory of Ministry of Education of Symbolic Computation and Knowledge Engineering, Jilin University and Antiy’s Threat Research Resources and Thoughts on Cyber Security Threat Knowledge Engineering, and had heated exchanges and discussions at the conference.

At the same time, with the help of artificial intelligence, data mining and other technologies, it is possible to reason a large number of cyber observations and data, and infers important situational features that help analysts and decision-makers form situation awareness, which is a significant support for realizing cyberspace situation awareness. Therefore, Antiy Research Institute and Key Laboratory of Ministry of Education of Symbolic Computation and Knowledge Engineering, Jilin University jointly establish Joint Laboratory of Cyber Security Threat Knowledge Engineering. Both sides will work together to promote the frontier research of knowledge engineering, artificial intelligence, data mining and other technologies in threat analysis and situation awareness and other fields. While for cyber security enterprises, most engineers work on product and support capability development, so their work often lack foresight and the motivation to follow up and transform advanced theory.
